The ‘Animal’ as he was called, Nat was the most confident of all. At this event he powered through the heats to make the finals. He was having a ball using several types of boards, demonstrating his versatility. However, during the finals in the rough conditions at Johanna he, as I remembered, kept coming off his very short board when he was going for radical maneuvers. The resulting swims placed him into third behind runner up Midget Farrelly.
